Hoylake 10k Coastal Run - Sun 22nd Sep 2024

Sunday 22nd September 2024

Event Details
The Hoylake 10k Coastal Run has a fine history on the Wirral, and prior to the lockdown that hit us in 2020, it had been held annually for 25-years, attracting runners from near and far to take part and raise funds for various charities across the Wirral.

Given how popular this event has been over the years we anticipate a strong interest this year as we proudly resurrect this iconic event for 2024! For all of you keen and loyal runners out there, we strongly recommend entering as early as possible as the maximum number of entries is small, and we will review entries once we have hit 500.

Back in 2018, the UTS Foundation took over the organisation of this popular event and we were blown away by the response from the running community, but still we are hoping to make this year’s event bigger and better than ever. The UTS Foundation is a registered charity and non-profit organisation, and the funds raised from this year’s race will honour the already established tradition of supporting local good causes and will also be used to help fund the UTS Foundation’s essential services.

The UTS Foundation works to change the lives of the most vulnerable people in our community, supporting anyone who has had, or has, cancer, providing exercise therapy and rehabilitation for free, for a period of twelve-weeks, with access to ongoing support for the longer term. The broader purpose of the UTS Foundation is to provide accessible and free structured coaching, health, and well-being sessions to a range of community groups from across the Wirral.

The 2024 Hoylake 10k will take place on Sunday 22nd September at 10.45am, and will start on the promenade directly opposite the Community Centre. As per England Athletics guidelines, the minimum age for the main event is 15.

Our junior mile fun run for 5-14 year olds starts at 10am, and all runners will receive a medal at the end. Under 5s can participate however they must be accompanied with an adult. Entry is minimum £2 donation to the UTS Foundation.

ENTRIES
Entries will be open up to and including race day. We will review this once we have hit 500 entries due to restrictions placed upon us. If you are planning to run, please enter asap to avoid disappointment. All runners will have be given a chipped time via Nifty and also receive a commemorative medal. Race numbers to be collected from the community centre on the day of the race.

JUNIOR MILE FUN RUN
This will start at 10.00. Entry to this is a £2 donation to the UTS Foundation and all participants will receive a medal. Register on the day of the event in the community center. Open to ages 5- 14.

THE ROUTE
The run starts on the North Parade promenade opposite The Parade Hoylake Community Centre. It proceeds along the sea front on the promenade (with majestic views), dropping onto the Meols embankment for a short distance, joining the rangers’ trail and through the gates, through the car park by Leasowe Lighthouse (drink station) and continuing back onto the embankment towards the Leasowe Castle Hotel.

Then at the 5km marker, runners make a 180 degree turn and start back towards Hoylake along the grassy section behind the embankment wall, rejoining the outward route at the drinks station. The course is generally flat with markers at every km and stewards positioned along the route for safety and guidance.
